6-7-08: Sabbath afternoon found a group of us cruising the bike path, a great place to bike with kids since you don't have to deal with cars. Check out the slide show and video clips!
(If the video clips below don't show or has no sound, hit the refresh button at the top and try again. They all have sound.)
Javan enjoys the ride
Cruz'n Claire
Is Dee drunk, distracted, or devious???
Summer reeling me in
Spying on them thru the tunnel
Carly is zonked!
Oh no, not again! White Lightening and Rasheed racing...and crashing
Oh oh, White Lighting does a Danica, while Thomas is the sly one
If you can't hear what Thomas said: "I got him again!"
Post ride swim in the jacuzzi. Carly takes lessons from Summer

3 miles in just over an hour!
6-6-08 Today was Summer's swim team's swim-a-thon. This is their major fundraiser for gear, equipment, awards, socials, subsidies, etc. You could swim whatever distance you wanted, though many of the kids took on the challenge of swimming 5000 yards (just over 3 miles). That is 200 laps (lengths) in our 25 yard pools.
Summer was a swimming machine! Her coaches say her strength is the middle to long distance because she has quite the endurance. Here are her stats:
5,000 yards completed in 1 hour, 9 minutes, 20 seconds (1:09.20). To receive special national recognition, 10 & under swimmers had to complete 5,000 yards in 70 minutes...which means she just made it!
Ave pace per 50 yards (2 lengths): 41.6 seconds (she kept that up for 200 lengths!)
A special thanks to all those who sponsored her for this swimathon. She raised over $600 for her club! You'll be receiving a receipt and special thank you from the swimmer herself.
This also means that I (Ernie) now have to swim 3 miles since she beat her last year's time of 1 hr 20 mins. Argh!!! She did say I could use short fins or a pull bouy and complete it over the course of a few days. Whew!
We're very proud of Summer for her accomplishment and all her hard work in the pool. She kicks both Keri's and my butt in swimming! Thanks again to all those who supported her in this fundraiser as well.
Rush hour in the lanes! Both pools were used, and each lane had anywhere from 5 to 7 kids in it! It got crowded in there--I'm surprised there weren't more collisions.
All the parents counting laps and timing.
Summer passing the two boys--she had to watch out for oncoming traffic!
Keri is diligently counting her laps as she does her flip turn. I was on the side, yelling her splits to her...which she said she never heard me! Ah well, I felt useful.
Summer lapped the kids and one adult swimming in her lane several times. Here she gets some open space to swim in for a bit...till she caught up with the group again! While most kids stopped to take drinks and rest, Summer never stopped once--she was gunning to make that national time!
Keri was also counting and timing Melissa in the next lane over--her mom was busy helping with the administration of the swim-a-thon.
Ah, they're so happy they're done their 5,000 yards! From left: Hannah Sabangan, Summer, and Melissa Pepper.
The coaches have to sign off on your lap count sheet to certify that you really did it.
They're either very hungry or are camera shy.
Oh no, they don't want to get caught talking to the "big" boys!
Gal pals like to hang out after a good swim workout. (L-R) Michelle Sabangan, Summer, Melissa Pepper, Emily Rigsby (she just turned 9!)
